The Hub organises a programme of events for Hub members designed to inform, inspire, and support the growth of Hub companies.  Events range from regular Business Breakfasts to one-on-one Clinics to interactive Workshops and are always focused on the needs of Hub members.  Events for Hub members include:

  • Peer Group Networking

Business Breakfasts
Business Breakfasts are seminars held on the first Friday of each month in the Surrey Technology Centre (08:30-10:30).  The aim of these breakfasts is to provide an opportunity for Hub members to network with each other, meet the Hub team and enjoy an informative presentation on an interesting business topic. The breakfasts are free to attend and are open to full members of the Surrey Hub and neighbouring Hubs, and are always very well-attended. There are networking opportunities before and after the seminar.

Typical topics for a breakfast seminar include:

  • Innovation, Etc etc etc

Hub Team Drop-in
After each business breakfast, there is also a 'Hub Team Drop-in' session until 12pm where the Hub team will be available to meet and talk with you about your business.


Expert Clinics
Expert Clinics offer a one-hour one-to-one consultation with an industry expert. Clinics are held every month.  Attendance is by invitation only. The hub provides experts in:

  • Intellectual Property
  • Management/leadership/team development
  • Sales
  • Digital Marketing
  • Commercial contracts
  • PR
  • Funding Strategy

Workshops
Workshops are highly interactive, hands-on events for 6-12 people.  Workshops take place regularly at the Surrey Technology Centre.  These half- and full-day workshops are available to all Hub members.  Although there is a charge to attend a workshop, the cost is heavily subsidised by the Hub. A full-day workshop will cost approximately £95 + vat and a half-day workshop will cost approximately £45 +vat.

Portfolio Club events
Portfolio Club events are for selected Hub members only and address specific topics of interest to Portfolio Club members. Portfolio Club events are facilitated by experts in a particular field, sourced from within the Hub and Mentor network, or externally. These events are intended to be highly interactive; with the peer group sharing experiences and using the power of the group to problem solve and create ideas to deal with common or individual company issues. Events take place regularly in Egham or Guildford, are free to members and by invitation only.

  • Quality Management Systems – which one is right for your business?
  • Recruiting Key Staff
  • Licensing - creative ways of generating additional revenue streams
  • Go to Market - developing the perfect proposition
  • Channels to Market - choosing the right channel, partner & agreements
  • Exit Strategy - adding business value right from the start
  • Deals that deliver – effective deals to meet business objectives

Peer Group Networking
These events are for invited Hub members only aimed at:

  • encouraging informal contact between peer founders of high growth small businesses
  • enabling mutual support to be given by peers in a similar growth situation with similar challenges
  • enabling confidential exchange between peers in non-competing businesses.

The Surrey Hub has several Peer Groups - numbers are restricted to a maximum of eight companies plus a small representation from the Hub team. The format is flexible and as agreed by the group.  Groups usually meet every two to three months.
