Leatherhead Food International (LFI) is the leading independent food research institute in Europe and provides food information to the international food and drinks industry.
LFI is one of the world's leading research, information and training centres for the food and drinks industry. We are a membership-based organisation with over 950 members worldwide, providing a range of services essential to companies dealing with value-added products in the UK, mainland European or international marketplace.
LFI was founded to carry out pre-competitive research on common problems facing the food industry. Over 80 years later, we still do this, although we have evolved over the years.
The Combined Science Unit has 2 roles within Leatherhead. Firstly it carries out research on behalf of Members (and research contracts for the UK Government's Food Standards Agency and the European Commission), as well as an extensive programme of totally confidential contract R & D for individual Member Companies. Secondly it offers Microbiological, Chemical and Taint analysis and Foreign body identification. It offers a fast, reliable and competitively priced service and has UKAS accredited laboratories in Leatherhead and Wells (in the west of England).
The Information Division collates and interprets published information for the global food and drinks industry. Its activities are split into three main areas - Science and Technology, Market Intelligence and worldwide Food Legislation. Training and conferences, the Library and Publications are also part of this division, as are the prestigious FoodlineTM databases.
The Leatherhead Enterprise Centre offers work space on flexible terms to technology businesses. Tenant companies have access to the technical and information resources at LFI.
